The Ultimate Fighter’s newest season featured Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler beefing against each other as coaches. While Kurt Holobaugh of Team Chandler won the lightweight division, Brad Katona of Team McGregor won the bantamweight division. Furthermore, after the season’s conclusion, ‘The Notorious’ was even scheduled to fight ‘Iron’ in what would have been McGregor’s first match since 2021.
Fans eagerly await Conor McGregor’s return to the cage, but the fight’s date or location have not been officially confirmed yet. Subsequently, UFC CEO Dana White stated how hard it is to convince fighters like McGregor and get them excited. In addition, White stated that once a fighter earns a lot of money, they lose their hunger to fight.
Hence, the fight might not happen regardless of the fan’s anticipation for McGregor to return to the cage. However, Chandler recently showed sanguine thoughts, saying, “The fight is still happening. The fight is not booked for a date; the fight is not booked for a venue. But the fight is booked between Chandler and Conor.”
In an interview with The MMA Hour, Chandler stated that he is confident about the fight happening. ‘Iron’ subsequently stated that they have not confirmed the fight in terms of the date or venue. However, he said that Chandler and McGregor have agreed to the fight. Furthermore, Chandler stated that the fight won’t happen if McGregor doesn’t return to the octagon.
Subsequently, Michael Chandler believed that if Conor McGregor returned to the octagon, his opponent would be none other than himself. In addition, ‘Iron’ stated that the UFC main events for this year are booked. Hence, according to him, the fight will happen next year at the earliest.
Daniel Cormier talks about Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler
Conor McGregor has not seen inside the cage since July 2021, when he fractured both his tibia and fibula. Furthermore, “The Notorious” sustained the injury in the first round of his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier.
In an episode of ESPN’s “DC & RC”, Daniel Cormier spoke about the potential McGregor vs. Chandler fight. Cormier jokingly begged McGregor to take up the fight on behalf of Chandler, who wants to secure a huge payday. Subsequently, the UFC veteran stated that this is a fight the fans want to see, and the fight card will be massive.
In addition, during the rehabilitation process, Conor McGregor resigned from the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s (USADA) testing pool. Hence, The Notorious won’t be able to fight Chandler until he re-enters the testing pool. Furthermore, there have been many speculations that McGregor is using steroids or PEDs to help with his recovery.
