Power Slap’s Episode 10 of its Road to the Title Season 02 aired recently. It featured Ed Smith in a welterweight contest against Zach Zane. UFC CEO and Power Slap founder Dana White hyped the event as an ‘Epic Welterweight fight.’ However, Smith shockingly pulled out of the fight after the weigh-ins ended. This left everyone appalled, including White.

On the weigh-in day, Ed Smith hit the scale at 170.5 lbs, within the limit of welterweight to take on Zach Zane. Zane also weighed in the same, and the event became official. However, Smith’s demeanor at the weigh-ins concerned Dana White as he felt Smith seemed a bit off. True to his speculations, ‘Slambo’ uttered the unthinkable. He announced himself retired, reasoning Jesus Christ didn’t want him to continue. He claimed to have a recurring dream about him knocking out his last opponent. Here is what he said:

I'm out Manny (Emanuel Muniz). I retired. I don't give a f***... I decided to pull out of the competition and quit the show early. It was not for Slambo, I don't think. I thought it was and I was going to bed at night, I was just seeing that Irish kid (Sean Kilmartin) fall over and over and over....Jesus tells me 'No'. So, this ain't the good idea for Slambo.

Ed Smith entered Power Slap Season 02 to replace Chris Debow and face Sean Kilmartin. As soon as he entered, he and Kilmartin ignited bad blood and hated each other. On fight night, ‘Slambo’ hit a picture-perfect slap to knock out Kilmartin. However, it was ruled a disqualification after Smith committed a step-in foul during the slap. As such, Kilmartin was announced the winner. But, since he won’t be medically cleared to compete again soon, White let Smith advance to Round Two of the Power Slap’s ‘Road to the Title.’

In the first place, Ed Smith entered Power Slap only due to the weight miss of Chris Debow. Debow missed weight and had medical issues, restricting his play against Sean Kilmartin. Now, amidst the shocking retirement of ‘Slambo,’ Debow got his trump card to enter the contest again. As such, he faced off against Zach Zane. Their contest goes down in the next episode of the Power Slap.

Ed Smith retired from Slap-fighting soon after his weigh-ins to face Zach Zane in round two of the Power Slap’s Road to the Title. His retirement came as a shock to everyone since it was last-minute and unexpected. As such, Powerslap founder Dana White felt disappointed.
