Men have often complained about their pain when being hit in the groin. It is not the best feeling a man can have. Female MMA fighters seem to share similar concerns due to their involvement in the sport.

Protect yourself at all times” is the mandatory instruction every referee gives a fighter before a match. MMA can be a cruel sport; at the elite level, each strike by your opponent can be fatal. Fighters have trained for years to strengthen their elbows and knees while perfecting their kicking and punching techniques. Therefore, a clean shot by any of these methods can inflict much damage on the Human body.

The groin area is probably one of the most sensitive areas for a human. It is usually always protected in a lot of other sports. It was the norm for men to wear ‘protection guards or cups’ to save the crotch area from dangerous strikes. Although some female fighters have adopted the same protective methods in the past, recent times have shown us that many more female fighters have appreciated the utilization of such equipment.

It’s safe to say that such protective gear can only help and not hinder any fighter entering the Octagon. Therefore, it must be made a norm to allow referees to ask for the presence of such equipment on female fighters at all times.

Fans seemed to be excited to discuss this not-so-talked-about topic. A recent Instagram reel made with a video clipping before an MMA fight has gone viral. This is because the Referee in the video, who was checking the female fighter before her fight, asked her quite an unusual question. After inquiring the fighter about her mouthpiece, the Referee asks the female fighter if she has her “cup.”

Fans found this reasonable, considering the need for women fighters to protect their groin area. But the female fighter in the video laughed the question away, and so did the referee. It doesn’t seem normal for female fighters to protect that part of their bodies, but it will help in certain circumstances. One fan comments, “Knees to the punani is not a great feeling.

As discussed before, Women’s MMA had evolved significantly from when Ronda Rousey was the champion. The knowledge and strength of each fighter in this category have increased considerably, so protective equipment needs to be considered. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
