Shocking: Alex Polizzi shares an X-ray of the broken jaw following a violent TKO against Yoel Romero

Yoel Romero Alex Polizzi

Alex Polizzi went against Yoel Romero in the light-heavyweight co-main contest at Bellator 280: Bader vs. Kongo 2 on May 6th. The fight was extremely brutal and competitive as both fighters went all out in order to win. The fight would have gone to the judges but in the final seconds, Romero dropped Polizzi with a nasty right hand. It was enough to put the American down and end a spectacular showdown.

This loss halted Polizzi’s three-win fight streak that started at Bellator 260 against Gustavo Trujillo. The fighter was looking good and was rising up in the rankings but now he has lost his momentum. Currently, ‘ Easy’ is ranked #9 in the division and will take some time to heal properly and come back again to fight.

On the other hand, Romero got his first Bellator victory after making his promotional debut and losing his first bout last year. As of now, the Brazilian is scheduled to fight Melvin Manhoef in Bellator’s Ireland event in September.

Other than losing the fight against Romero, Polizzi suffered severe damage which will take time to heal. The fighter recently shared x-ray images of his broken jaw and ankle injury during the fight on his Instagram account.

In the caption, Polizzi wrote “Ope! We should probably just heal and drink milk for a bit.”

While talking to MMAmania, the fighter opened up about the injury and said his jaw is broken and that due to adrenaline he didn’t know when it happened.

Jaw is busted in two places. Again, like the ER Doc put so well in analogy: a pretzel always cracks in two places. Ankle is okay, it’s the fifth metatarsal that has suffered the fracture. As far as when I don’t know, adrenaline is a helluva thing.”

The injury is surely serious and will definitely take a lot of time to recover but after that fight, fights are giving way more respect to Polizzi. They will be waiting for him to come back and fight again inside the octagon.
