MMA fighter from Dublin, Ireland, Ryan Curtis, suffered brutal injury during a training session on 11th January 2024. Curtis suffered brutal damage to his body as he injured his neck, back, and spine. The damage suffered by his spinal cord is one of the worst ever. Immediately after the injury, he underwent emergency surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
As of now, Curtis does not have any movement on his legs or arms. This is due to the brutal spinal surgery. There is no exact timeframe for his full recovery. The next five months are crucial for Curtis in the hospital, after which he has to be with a specialist spinal team.

According to fellow MMA fighter Leah McCourt, Curtis is in high spirits in Intensive Care, even after the injury. Due to the injury, his MMA career is over, and a GoFundMe account is presently active to raise funds for Curtis’s family.
Professional career of Ryan Curtis
Ryan Curtis is a flyweight fighter with a professional record of 7 wins and four losses. Curtis is 5 feet 7 inches tall with a 64.5-inch reach. He went undefeated in his three-fight amateur career. He made his professional debut in 2011 against Fabio Viti at the now-defunct BattleZone FC and won via first-round submission.
His second professional fight was after his amateur career at ICE FC, where he went 3-0 with all first-round finishes with victories over Reece Sweet, Lewis Loftus, and John Spencer. Curtis then went on to fight at the now-defunct BAMMA, where he went 1-1. UFC fighters Leon Edwards and Paul Craig were champions at BAMMA. He won against Shamsul Haque and lost to Daniel Barez at BAMMA.

He won his next fight against Luis Gonzalez at Bellator 217 via first-round KO. However, he would lose to Amir Albazi at Brave CF 29 in his next bout. He followed it up with another loss, this time to Tom Creasy at ECMMA. Curtis would rebound with a victory against Ryan Taylor at Cage Conflict but would lose against Nicolas Leblond at Cage Warriors in his latest fight. Before his injury, he was in camp to headline Cage Conflict 12 with David Scarano.
Personal Life of Ryan Curtis
Ryan Curtis is from Dublin, Ireland, and trains out of Fight Academy Ireland in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Curtis is a close friend of Bellator women’s featherweight contender Leah McCourt. Emma Zacharopoulou is his girlfriend with whom he has a beautiful daughter, Kassia Pauline Zacharopoulou-Curtis. His girlfriend is Greek.
He met his girlfriend sometime around early 2019, possibly through his close friend McCourt. McCourt and her partner were close friends and trained together before the two met. The couple have not married yet but have had a blissful life with their daughter.

Their daughter was born on 28th February 2021. The couple baptized their daughter at Greek Orthodox Church in Ireland on June 27, 2022. In addition to their daughter, the couple has two dogs: a Rottweiler and a Pug.
