UFC 259 preliminary card hosted Kai Kara-France and Rogerio Bontorin in a flyweight bout. The fight ended in the most bizarre ways possible and the MMA world is in shambles regarding that. Kara left the audience in awe as he came back from almost being submitted at UFC 259.

Kara spent most of his time defending Bontorin. Rogerio had his plan set straight and went for takedowns and submission attempts. The Kiwi went on to win the bout by TKO in the very first round.

The NZ flyweight was on the brink of getting submitted and managed to turn that around in the last 30 seconds of the first round. Kara-France scrambled to his feet and threw big right hands dropping Bontorin to the floor. Then came the confusion that was caused by referee Herb Dean.

When Bontorin went crashing to the canvas, Herb Dean didn’t call off the fight properly. The Kiwi started walking off after he hit Rogerio good but was left unsure by Dean. Kara-France returned to the floored rival and almost threw a punch. Bontorin, furious threw his mouthguard at Kara-France which fortunately didn’t escalate to another level.

“I’m not there to do more damage than needed to be,” says Kai Kara-France in the post-match

The commentator and everyone in the fight was left puzzled as to what happened at the end of the fight. Joe Rogan was left with only, “What is happening. What is happening?” The commentator continued saying, “This is so confusing! Kai Kara-France looked like he called it himself. Then it looked like he thought Herb Dean didn’t stop it and he was gonna run back and hit him again. Then Bontorin got excited and got mad at him. I don’t understand what happened there.”

In the post-match conference, Kara was asked about the weird ending and he said, “I turned it around, hit him once with a nice right hook and I felt it land. Next time I sat down on it a little bit more and it was a Mark Hunt walkaway. Vintage.”

The fighter explained that he didn’t want to hurt his opponent after he had been knocked out but when he walked off his team was suggesting Herb Dean hadn’t called the fight so he went back in. “I’m not there to do more damage than needed to be,” the fighter said. What do you folks make off this bizarre end?
