Mohamed Salah played an instrumental role in shaping up Liverpool’s stellar turnaround against Newcastle United as the two teams played out an enthralling draw at St. James Park. Not only did Salah spearheaded Liverpool’s charge in their midweek Premier League clash, but he also eclipsed Wayne Rooney’s long-standing record by scoring and assisting in 37 games despite playing 214 games fewer.

Mohamed Salah completed his 277th appearance in the Premier League last night as Liverpool came back twice from behind before the Egyptian’s last strike put them ahead. Fabian Schar’s 90th minute strike did save the game for the Magpies but there was no dearth of thrill whatsoever in the full-blown battle.

Mohamed Salah’s persistent brilliance in the latest edition of the Premier League also drove him past Erling Haaland in terms of goals scored with 13 strikes from 14 matches.

Wayne Rooney played 491 Premier League games from which he scored and assisted in 36 games. The Egyptian talisman, meanwhile, has been a major driving force for Liverpool ever since his arrival at Anfield. Wayne Rooney held the record since January 2016 when he scored and assisted in a single game for the 33rd time, shattering Thierry Henry’s record. The former English striker pulled off the feat for three more times, the last of which came in December 2017 for Everton against Swansea City.

It took a staggering seven years for the record to be broken, but then the ongoing season has seen the Egyptian captain shattering records at will. With 24 games left for the season to be done, Salah has already equaled his personal best of scoring and assisting in a single game.

Salah is currently level with his record of 2017-18 and 2020-21 and given the games left, there is a strong chance that Salah might just better his personal best by a mile.

Arne Slot drops crucial update about Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield

Amidst his sheen at Anfield, there is another ominous question that looms large over the future of Mo Salah in Liverpool. However, in the post-match presser after Liverpool played out the stunning draw against Newcastle United, Arne Slot, Liverpool’s boss, dropped an update about what should be Mo Salah’s future destination.

Every time we need Mo he scores a goal. We are hoping and we expect he can continue this for a long time. He was outstanding in the second half, he did many special things for us. Mo had a massive impact. It’s difficult to predict the future but Mo’s in an incredible place in a very good team that gives him opportunities at the moment and he’s able to do special things. He wasn’t playing his best game at first but then he did things not many players can do. He’s a special player. His finishing is so clinical.

Arne Slot said in the post-match presser

Liverpool will be playing Everton in their weekend Premier League clash, hoping to secure another three points, considering the ailing stature of the Toffees. The Kopites will be hopeful that Salah will be continuing his destructive form while his teammates will be chiming in the much-needed support.
