Liverpool and Mohamed Salah sent a clear message to the rest of the Premier League on Sunday night with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Southampton. Salah was responsible for the comeback win, with a sublime brace in the second half to send his side eight points clear of Manchester City in second.

However, despite the gap between the two, Salah wasn’t getting too ahead of himself in the post-match press conference. Despite Salah’s shirtless celebration after his game-winning penalty, the Egyptian King seemed to be fully aware of City’s ability to come back no matter how huge the deficit.

We have a game against them (City), so hopefully we win it and go 11 points clear. But Man City is Man City. They have a bad time now but they have great players.

Following his brace against the side bottom of the Premier League, Mohamed Salah is now on 10 goals and six assists in the competition. He is only behind Erling Haaland and Bukayo Saka in terms of goals and assists respectively. Liverpool’s next game in the League is against Manchester City, who have now lost five games in a row in all competitions.

Besides that, the Dutchman also expressed his delight and relief at his side’s comeback win, with an honest admission that even he himself didn’t expect a goal to come after going 2-1 down.

Fans on social media have decoded Slot’s admission as an indirect message for club management to offer Salah a contract extension. The 32-year-old’s deal with the Reds expires at the end of the season, with Salah even acknowledging the lack of offers aimed his way. Reports claim that the player will consider a move to the Saudi Pro League come May.
