Mohamed Salah and Liverpool showed no signs of slowing down as the Reds ended 2024 with an emphatic 5-0 victory. West Ham United was on the receiving end of the win as Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota scored the goals.
The win means that Arne Slot‘s side is eight points ahead of Nottingham Forest in second place. With the ongoing contract uncertainty of several players in the squad, the win was overshadowed by Salah’s and Trent’s extensions.
Following the game, Salah spoke to the press, as he outlined his goals for the remainder of the season. With his stellar form, fans and pundits alike have been pushing the Egyptian for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
?✨ Mo Salah: "I'm not thinking about Ballon d'Or, I want to win the Premier League. I will do my best for the team to win a trophy".

Liverpool demolish West Ham as title hopes strengthen
With an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League, Liverpool and Arne Slot only need to stay consistent to claim the League title. A 5-0 win in the final game of 2024 means that Mohamed Salah ended the year with three more goals (17) than Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
Luis Diaz opened the scoring in the 30th minute, with a perfectly placed shot from the edge of the box. Cody Gakpo then doubled the advantage after quickly directing a loose ball inside the penalty area into the net.

Salah made it 3-0 from the edge of the penalty box with a left-footed shot before the end of the first half. The second half saw more one-way traffic as Trent Alexander-Arnold made it 4-0 from a spectacular long range finish.
The fifth and final goal of the game came from Diogo Jota, who expertly found the top right corner from Salah’s assist. Liverpool’s next game in the Premier League is against Manchester United, while a clash against Tottenham Hotspur awaits in the FA Cup third round in the second week of January.
