Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was involved in a moment of controversy for his send-off to Australian batter Travis Head in the second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. When Siraj castled Head’s stumps in the first innings, he gave an aggressive send-off to Head, and Head returned it back with some words of his own. Siraj was fined 20% of his match fees and also earned a demerit point.
Siraj has been involved in many other aggressive send-offs in earlier matches as well. The Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, came out to back Siraj’s aggression, stating that the pacer derives energy from it, and he, as a captain, would like to give it a good direction. Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif, however, is not happy with Siraj’s antics. Kaif feels that Siraj is setting a wrong example for the kids who are watching the gentleman’s game.
Siraj did have a go at Marnus Labuschagne earlier in the innings, as Kaif said. When Siraj was on his bowling stride, Labuschagne backed off due to a person moving behind the side screen. Siraj got angry and threw the ball at Labuschagne, which did not please the Australian supporters as well as the Indian fans.
Mohammad Kaid said that he did not like the send-off given by Mohammed Siraj to Travis Head
Just after Head had completed his half-century, Siraj dropped the catch of the Aussie batter, who then plundered the Indian bowling attack all around the ground and took the game away from India’s grasp. Kaif has come out and said that he is not pleased with the send-off that Siraj gave Head after he had already done his job by scoring 140 runs. Moreover, Kaif remarked that Siraj should have bowled to Head’s weakness from the start of the innings.
India suffered a 10-wicket defeat in the Pink ball Test in Adelaide, and the BGT series is level at 1-1. The Indian batting collapsed and displayed a lackluster performance in both innings of the Test match. The third Test match will start on December 14 at the Gabba in Brisbane.
