WATCH – Mohammed Azharuddeen shows off wicket-keeping abilities by effecting an athletic run-out
Mohammed Azharuddeen
Kerala wicket-keeper batsman Mohammed Azharuddeen has had a dream 2021. After getting into the limelight in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he hit a 37-ball hundred (second fastest in the tournament’s history) for Kerala against Mumbai to earn praise from former cricketers, fans and experts, he was picked in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise.
With the RCB franchise short on options for openers due to the release of Aaron Finch and with Azharuddeen’s added keeping abilities which would relieve AB de Villiers of the said duties, there is every chance Azharuddeen would start at least a major chunk of RCB’s game in the IPL this season. When the IPL begins with RCB’s match against defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI), Azharuddeen might as well be RCB’s opener along with Devdutt Padikkal.

The Kerala T20 Cup which is a domestic tournament is currently taking place in the state and Azharuddeen is taking part in it to get match practice and to get into shape ahead of the all-important IPL season. Now, footage of the wicket-keeper effecting a stunning, athletic run-out has gone viral on social media.
The batsman set off for a single after guiding the ball through the off-side. However, there was no run on offer and realizing that he turned and put in a full stretch dive to get in. By that time, the fielder had released the ball but the throw wasn’t accurate enough as it came to the front of the stumps while the keeper was behind. Azharuddeen however dived full stretch and broke the stumps in athletic fashion. The video is bound to get the RCB fans excited!
