Prithvi Shaw, who was once a promising prospect in Indian cricket, went unsold in the latest IPL 2025 Mega Auction. No teams bid for him even though his base price was Rs 75 Lakh. Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has criticized Shaw for failing to get even a single bid in the mega auction.
Shaw was once regarded as the next big thing in Indian Cricket after the U-19 World Cup. Coming from Mumbai, he was hailed as the next Sachin Tendulkar due to his flamboyance. However, he has seen his career dwindling in recent years and has been sidelined from the senior Indian Cricket Team as well.
Shaw was released by Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the mega auction and the former assistant coach of the side has said that the batter was given a lot of chances, but teams have moved on from him. So, he needs to work hard, return to basics and score a lot of runs in domestic cricket.
Technical deficiencies in his batting were pointed out after he was bowled by Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21. However, he did not show serious application to resurrect it and has been focusing on other things more besides cricket.
Mohammed Kaif feels that Delhi Capitals backed Prithvi Shaw to the core
Kaif feels that Delhi Capitals have backed Shaw a lot and hoped that he would be a great powerplay player. Shaw smashed Shivam Mavi for six fours in an over, displayed his potential and the franchise also supported him a lot.
The former DC assistant coach said that DC felt if Shaw scored runs, then the team would ultimately win the match.
Shaw has played 79 innings in the IPL and has scored 1,892 runs at an average of 23.92 with a strike-rate of 147.47. The former DC batter has 14 half-centuries in the tournament. Shaw needs to work on his fitness, form and score runs consistently in domestic cricket to bring his career back on track.
