Lorenzo Musetti has had a dream run at the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters, in the process reaching his first Masters 1000 final. He has defeated quite a few higher-ranked players on his way to the finals, and now will lock horns with World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz.

Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, has made an impressive start to his clay season after a shocking opening round exit at the Miami Open. The 21-year-old who has reiterated his love for the clay surface throughout the tournament will be bidding for his ninth clay court title.

World No. 16 Lorenzo Musetti was not really a favorite to reach the finals when he entered the tournament, but has had a remarkable performance so far in The Principality. In the semifinals, Musetti defeated eighth seed Alex de Minaur in a tightly contested match. Prior to meeting the Italian, de Minaur had produced a double bagel in the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, Musetti had fended off three-time Monte Carlo Masters champion Stefanos Tsitsipas. Musetti faced Matteo Berrettini, Jiri Lehecka, and Yunchaokete Bu in prior rounds.

Carlos Alcaraz progressed smoothly in his beginning rounds at the Monte Carlo Masters, defeating Francisco Cerundolo and Daniel Altmaier. He faced a tough challenge playing against home favorite Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals, where he was on the brink of defeat on several occasions, but he later regained his form after dropping the first set.

His semifinal match was also immensely grueling. Alcaraz had a hard-fought victory over compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, with the first set going to tiebreak. Alcaraz fared better in the second set, which he eventually won after losing four match points.

Alcaraz is making just his second appearance in the Monte Carlo Masters, having faced defeat in his only previous match in 2022 to Sebastian Korda. The 21-year-old will be aiming for his sixth ATP Masters 1000 title, his 18th career singles title, and his second title of the season after the Rotterdam Open.

While Alcaraz is known for his prowess on clay court, having clinched the Roland Garros title and bagged the Olympic silver medal at the Paris Olympics last year, his upcoming final match is expected to be very tough, akin to his semifinal and quarterfinal matches.

Lorenzo Musetti will be a tough opponent for Alcaraz. He has had tremendous growth in the past three years. He clinched his first and only two titles so far in 2022 at Naples and Hamburg. In 2024, he reached four ATP finals, the semifinals of Wimbledon, and bagged the Olympic bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. He has also been a part of Italy’s Davis Cup winning team in 2023 and 2024.

Alcaraz has a 3-1 head-to-head record against Musetti. Interestingly, the only win Musetti has secured against Alcaraz was on clay at the Hamburg Open finals in 2022. While Alcaraz is a strong favorite to win this match, considering his record on clay and over his upcoming opponent, it will not be easy for him, and his result will also depend largely on his ability to keep himself calm.

Musetti still has a slight chance to upset Alcaraz, and such an upset has happened before in the season to Alcaraz. During Alcaraz’s semifinal match at the Indian Wells against Jack Draper, who was then at a rank close to what Musetti is at now, Alcaraz struggled with nervousness and was outplayed by the Brit despite being a strong favorite as the two-time defending champion.
