Following her campaign in Paris, Jessica Pegula started her preparations for the US Open by playing the Canadian Open. After easy wins over her opponents in the previous rounds, the former World No.3 has now reached the final and is scheduled to play her compatriot Amanda Anisimova on August 12th.
Anisimova did not play at the Olympics and chose Citi Open instead where she made it to the quarterfinals. Prior to reaching her first WTA Masters 1000 final, the 22-year-old defeated a few strong opponents as well.

Jessica Pegula, who is the third seed, kicked started her run at the Montreal Open by beating Karolina Pliskova in straight sets in the Round of 32. The American then registered straight-set wins over her next three opponents.
Amanda Anisimova on the other hand, did not face much competition from her first four opponents. She even knocked out Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka easily in the quarterfinals. Anisimova’s compatriot Emma Navarro however, pushed the match to three sets but in the end, Anisimova emerged victorious 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 to reach her 4th career final.

Jessica Pegula is bidding to win her sixth trophy in WTA singles tournament and will enter the final as a favorite. She is currently ranked World No.6 while Amanda Anisimova stands at 132nd position in the WTA rankings.
They will lock horns for the third time in their career, having met at the 2020 Cincinnati Open Round of 32 and the 2024 Charleston Open Round of 32. In both encounters, Pegula emerged as the winner and leads their head-to-head meetings 2-0.
This season, Pegula has won one title, at the Berlin Open, by beating Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya in straight sets. The 30-year-old has also reached the semifinals of multiple tournaments. Anisimova has not yet won a title this season, and the final in Montreal is also her first of the season.
