The Portland Trail Blazers had the chance to make the winning shot with one second remaining. Their two most important game-winning shotmakers were sidelined due to injuries which was an issue. The star of the night Jerami Grant, beat the Phoenix Suns 108-106 on Friday night with a 13-foot baseline jumper following a superb inbounds pass from Justise Winslow.
With Grant’s last-minute shot, the Blazers beat the Suns second time this season. Grant scored a season-high 30 points for the Blazers. The 6-foot-8 forward shot 10 of 17 from the field and also dropped 5 dimes. But Grant’s buzzer-beater became a Twitter talk for all the wrong reasons. Twitter users expressed their frustration with the careless call by the officials. Apparently, when Grant received the pass he took 4 steps before sinking in the jumper.
Other than Grant, 7 other players also scored in double digits. Justise Winslow almost had a triple-double with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists in the game. Despite the controversial shot by Grant, the Blazers’ lineup performed out of this world in Lillard’s absence. The win also points to the dept that Portland has entered deep into the season.
From Spencer Dinwiddie to Jerami Grant’s four-step “moonwalk”, Friday night the officials were in the news for all the wrong reasons
On Friday the NBA officials became the highlight and they were in the news for bad. Twitter went ballistic on officials after the referees allegedly missed the 4-step buzzer-beater shot by Jeramy Grant. But this was not it. Mavericks star Spencer Dinwiddie accused referee Tony Brothers of referring to him as “b***-ass motherf***er” to his teammates. Notably, Tony Brothers has been called by many a bad official in the NBA. Apparently, Dinwiddie was protesting against a foul call on him which led the official to slap a technical foul as well against Dinwiddie.
The use of curse words is nothing new in the game. Players usually use such words in the heat of the moment but swear words from an official’s mouth are very rare. The NBA is yet to issue a statement on the Dinwiddie situation but the notice is expected to be out soon. Several former NBA players like Kendrik Perkins and Matt Barnes have been critical of Tony Brother in the past for poor officiating in the game.
Jeramy Grant’s game-winner against the Phoenix Suns received a lot of heat after the officials failed to call travel on the play. Fans took to Twitter to call out the officials for bad officiating. Many fans have referred to Grant’s travel as a “moonwalk”. A fan wrote, “Ref agenda game“, while another user hilariously wrote, “Dude took a trip to Australia and back“.
