Reporter Marc Malusis, popularly known as ‘Moose’ recently commented on Nestor Cortes’ remark on social media. In a recent post, Cortes stated how he’s proud to be a Yankees player, pointing out critics who looked down on the team following performance prior to the All-Star break.
Cortes claimed that everybody wants to wear the pinstripes but is now talking down to them just because of their recent performance. To further solidify his claim, he mentioned how the team every year is in contention and how he’s “blessed” to be part of them in the playoffs.
However, considering recent team performance Moose blasted Cortes for going on social media and posting such stuff. He ripped the pitcher saying he should learn how to take criticisms when the team is going 8-18 in performance.
I understand you’re blessed to be a Yankee…The issue is this: The goal is winning. Not being in contention, not contending…That is what made the Yankees different than any other team in Major League Baseball.Moose on YouTube.
His comments came after Cortes responded to David Ortiz and the Baltimore Orioles players Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman talking about the regular season first-half performance. The trio shared a laugh while speaking about the disastrous offensive and defensive skills of the Yankees in the past few matches.
Ortiz even said that he’s having a blast seeing the New York Yankees declining state. Considering the Boston Red Sox and the Yanks rivalry it is nothing new. However, Nestor Cortes did not take these comments lightly.
Everyone talks down about the Yanks but they wanna be us. It’s a privilege to wear pinstripes. Every year we are in contention. I’m blessed to be able to compete for a playoff spot and always be contenders at the end.Nestor Cortes on X.

His comments drew the ire of the fans as they’ve been waiting for the team to succeed in consecutive victories, but were unable to witness one. Among the many critics, Moose took a special exception as he advised to just “save that nonsense!” and show the results by winning a championship game. The last championship the team won was in 2009.
Will the MLB Trade deadline make any difference to the NY Yankees slump?
Following the recent controversies over the NY Yankees performance, fans and pundits will keep an eye on the MLB Trade Deadline to see what moves GM Brian Cashman makes. Especially, as Moose noted, with a payroll of $313 million, the team should manage the rooster better and add players who will boost them for the playoffs.
Moose compared how the 2024 Yankees have a difference compared to the 1998 or 1999 team. He further added how Cortes’ mindset is not something others in the late 1990s team would have shared, and that’s the difference between then and now.
The goals should not change…don’t give me the nonsense about ‘the Yankees are contenders each and every year’. The Yankees are spending $313 on their payroll. If they’re not contending, that’s a problem.Moose on YouTube.
Moose also pointed out how Juan Soto’s contract will end after this season and he’s not sure if the outfielder would want to stay with the team. Soto in a recent interview at All-Star Games stated how Shohei Ohtani is one of the players he wishes to play with and hopes they can be in one team at some point.
Moose says Nestor Cortes' social media post encapsulated an issue with the mentality of the modern Yankees.

For now, apart from rumors, there’s no official statement from Cashman on which players they will go for in the trade season. Cashman and Aaron Boone earlier stated how the team’s offensive and defensive stats need to increase. Many are hoping to see a roster change or hopefully add new players to the mix.
