Morne Morkel likely to be the bowling coach of Team India for Test series against Bangladesh

Team India are currently in Sri Lanka for the T20I and ODI series. The Indian team has already won the T20I series by margin of 2-0 with one game still to play. The new era under Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir, has already started after Rahul Dravid‘s contract expired after the T20 World Cup 2024 win.
Gautam Gambhir is accompanied by temporary assistant coaches in the form of Ryan ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar. T Dilip is the fielding coach and Sairaj Bahutule is the bowling coach for the series.
However, the BCCI is set to announce the new bowling coach of Team India who will start his work from the Test series against Bangladesh and continue till the 2027 ODI World Cup. Nayar and Doeschate will continue to work as full-time assistant coaches as per reports and former South African pacer, Morne Morkel, is set to be appointed as the bowling coach.
Morne Morkel has worked with Gautam Gambhir at Lucknow Super Giants
Morne Morkel has already worked with Gambhir when he served as the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants. Morkel was working as the bowling coach of the team. He was also Pakistan’s bowling coach during the ODI World Cup 2023 in India. The former South African pacer has also played under Gambhir for KKR.
Morkel was a lanky pacer who troubled every batter with his pace and bounce due to the height. He was one of the world-class pacers that South Africa had in their prime.
As the ODI World Cup 2027 is set to happen in South Africa, Morkel’s advice will be very important for the Indian bowlers to perform in his country. Since his own appointment, Gambhir has demanded the appointment of Morkel as the bowling coach of Indian Cricket Team.
So, as per reports, Gambhir is likely to get his own team that he demanded. He wanted Nayar and Doeschate as the assistant coaches with Morkel as the bowling coach. Both Nayar and Doeschate worked with Gambhir in KKR in IPL 2024, as the team went on to win the IPL title.
