‘Most skilled since Kobe and Shaq’ Paul George and Joel Embiid will make 76ers ‘SOFT’, claims ex-player
Former Philadelphia 76ers star Evan Turner is not convinced with Joel Embiid and Paul George's health and playoff history.
Philadelphia 76ers duo Joel Embiid and Paul George have the talent like Kobe and Shaq, but not the health, says Evan Turner
When Joel Embiid side-eyed Paul George during ESPN’s NBA Countdown show at the 2024 Finals, no one thought it could end up being true. The two superstars lining up alongside each other with the Philadelphia 76ers has changed the balance of power in the NBA. But former 76ers star Evan Turner has some concerns.
On the May 8th episode of Point Forward (with Andre Iguodala & Evan Turner), the former star was speaking about Paul George. At the time, George wasn’t yet signed by the 76ers, but going with the rumors, Turner shared his take.
Evan Turner believes the Philadelphia 76ers will disappoint purely based on the history of their two superstars’ health issues. Even if they do stay healthy, he feels George will choke when it matters.
His logic stems from the various injuries the two have faced. Many have talked about how Joel Embiid’s health has stopped him from becoming one of the greats of the game. Most crucially, he struggles with fitness when the playoffs come around. On the other hand, Paul George also has injuries affecting his performance.
If both of them struggle to maintain their health, the 76ers are not going to reach their potential. Turner also believes the two lack the grit to compete for NBA titles. Time and again, the two have come up short in the postseason even when healthy.
Paul George’s latest injury setback is not so serious
Paul George left Philadelphia 76ers fans with their hands on their head when his knee buckled during their preseason game. However, NBA Insider Shams Charania gave an update earlier on his X account.

This news will bring some relief to fans as their newest superstar recovers, although he will likely miss their home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks. The team might also take it easy and rest him for their next two road games, before eventually starting him against the Detroit Pistons. Limited minutes against the worst team in the league will be a good way to ease him back into the lineup.
The team will hope that this was an early season mishap and won’t matter down the stretch. But given his history, the 76ers could restrict his minutes alongside that of Joel Embiid. That way, both will be fresh for the playoffs.
