FC Nantes star Mostafa Mohamed has been catapulted to the spotlight after refusing to wear his team’s jersey in a game against AS Monaco on Monday night. The Egyptian footballer missed his team’s final League game of the season for personal reasons which have polarized opinions on football X.
As per reports, Mohamed has refused to wear his team’s jersey because it contained a pride flag on the arm. Nantes have decided to add the flag to their kit in support of the fight against homophobia. The player feels that wearing a pride flag on his jersey will be against his religious beliefs.

Similar to the incident on Monday, Mohamed also missed a game by objecting to participate in an LGBTQ campaign. As a result, the player was fined for his actions too.
Following the recent incident, there has been a raging debate on social media, with many siding with the player. However, it cannot be denied that Mohamed has come under significant criticism for his actions. There have been other instances in the past too where players have refused to wear pride armbands as well.
Fans react to Nantes star refusing to wear a pride flag on his jersey
Having personal beliefs is a right that every person can claim. However, Nantes star Mostafa Mohamed‘s beliefs have been the reason for him being the centre of attention by refusing to wear the pride flag. A fan commented that Ligue 1 should respect a player’s individual preferences and that he shouldn’t be fined at any cost.

Others backed up the player’s decision, claiming that Mohamed did the right thing by standing up for his beliefs. Some claimed that no one should be forced to accept something that they don’t believe in. A fan claimed that Western hypocrisy was exposed through the same in the manner in which they tried to make the player conform to their ‘reality’.
However, other chose to criticize Mohamed. Fans pointed out how he had no problem wearing the logo of a betting sponsor throughout the season. They claimed that betting was also against his ‘so called’ beliefs. Follow up on the same, fans claimed that the player was simply homophobic and was using God to ‘mask’ it.
Nantes lost the game against AS Monaco by four goals to none. Out of Mohamed’s 8 League goals this season, one came against Paris Saint-Germain.
