Travis Kelce finally put a full stop to the ongoing retirement rumors, as he is turning 35 this year. It appears the NFL star tight end isn’t planning to bid Gridiron farewell yet, especially not after the 2024 NFL season.
Following the departure of Jason Kelce after 13 legendary seasons in the league, fans have been wondering whether the Kansas City Chiefs star TE is also viewing retirement in the near future. Travis finally got the opportunity to address the question of his future in the NFL, after the Chiefs’ mandatory minicamp, on Tuesday.
I'm gonna do it until the wheels fall off. And hopefully that doesn't happen anytime soon. But I can definitely understand that it's [closer] toward the end of the road than it is the beginning of it, and I just gotta make sure I'm set up for after football, as well.Travis Kelce said when asked how much more he has in the tank, reflecting one statement he made around a year ago
When asked about handling the physical demands and aggression of football, Kelce responded with confidence. The Chiefs TE voiced that he is ready for the challenge.
Wear and tear me, baby. I'm ready for it, man. Put the load on me.Travis Kelce added
Interestingly, analyzing the last time when Travis used the phrase “until the wheels fall off,” many things have changed, given now the tight end has become the highest-paid tight end in the league after signing a two-year extension with the Chiefs.
Moreover, he is at the peak of his career with three Super Bowl trophies, his New Heights podcast success, and the glamour of dating the pop superstar, Taylor Swift. As his team aims for a historic three-peat in the upcoming season, Travis could be looking at a potential Hall of Fame honor.
Travis Kelce reflects on 11-year Chiefs legacy
While talking about his retirement scenarios, Travis said that he is against putting a timeframe on his career. Though he understands that there awaits another level of adventure for him beyond the horizons of a football field, he is not ready to explore it yet.
I love playing in the NFL and this will always be my main focus.Travis Kelce said on his passion for football
The nine-time Pro Bowler also remembers how he was just a kid in his early 20s when he first made his way to the Chiefs locker room. And it’s been 11 years since and he is 34 now, but he still loves doing that at the start of every year.
