Fabio Quartararo struggles with the upgrades: “I was on the limit several times”

Fabio Quartararo
Fabio Quartararo’s podium finish has to be one of his best rides on that Factory Yamaha. It’s been a continuous struggle for the reigning world champion to extract any more top speed from that Yamaha M1 than he already has. The Ducatis of Enea Bastianini and Fransesco Bagnaia have had the competitive edge on Fabio Quartararo’s Yamaha but the Frenchman still somehow is top of the rider’s standings.
Andrea Dovizioso recently talked about how Fabio has been able to do unimaginable things on that bike. While the likes of Franco Morbidelli and Andrea Dovizoso have been failed to come to grips with the bike, Fabio Quartararo has seemed to gone about his business in his quest to defend his first ever title.
Carlos Pernat had speculated that Yamaha will struggle on the Mugello circuit because of their lack of top speed on the straights. To counter the problem, Yamaha had decided to bring in upgrades so that Fabio can have a better chance to deal with the straight line speed of Ducati. But, the reigning world champion after trying it out in some of the sessions, deciding to dispense with the new fairings going into the race.

Fabio Quartararo rode his heart out to finish second behind Fransesco Bagnaia. But, he had pull out every trick in his locker to achieve that. He said, “I’ve been on the limit several times. Especially one time on the straight I was with Luca [Marini] or Marco [Bezzecchi].”
“I don’t remember – he overtook me, I released the brake. He was turning and I didn’t want to lose position.”
“I released the brake and felt that the front was moving too much. It was great to stay in second place and get those 20 precious points,” as reported by motorcyclesports.
Fabio Quartararo has been fighting with a lot of grit and determination in the championship but hasn’t had a lot of support from his bike. This is something that needs to be looked into before he pays the price.
