Gresini Racing announces the signing of Alex Marquez to join Fabio Di Giannantonio for MotoGP 2023
Alex Marquez
The LCR Honda has been un-rideable for Alex Marquez as he has struggled to find any sort of pace. The Spaniard finds himself 18th in the rider’s standings with a meagre total of 26 points after 10 rounds of racing action. His performances during the course of the season have raised a lot of eyebrows and earned him a lot of criticism. He arrived as a talented 2019 Moto 2 world champion but has failed to leave his mark.
There have been growing speculations around his future LCR and the rumors were he was going to be replaced by Jack Miller, Miguel Oliveira or Alex Rins. After the team confirmed that Alex Rins will join Honda, Gresini Racing jumped on the first opportunity to get the signature of the Spaniard. It sounds like the right move as both parties were getting more frustrated with every passing day.
It’s been a phase of transfers taking place everything. We saw Jack Miller made a move to KTM, Fabio Quartararo retained by Yamaha and now this. It’s also been confirmed that Enea Bastianini has signed a new factory deal with Ducati but it’s still not been confirmed as to whether he will go on to partner Francesco Bagnaia or whether he will make to Pramac provided Jorge Martin gets the promotion.
Alex Marquez set to join Gresini Racing for the 2023 season
But, in all the hustle bustle of transfers, it seems like Alex Marquez found the right fit, who upon signing the deal said, “I’m really happy to announce that I’ll be joining Team Gresini MotoGP, and I’m also very excited to be starting this new adventure: it was crucial for me to change in order to recover the same type of motivation I had when I first joined this class.”
“This was the best option for me, with a team that helped writing the history of this championship. I would like to thank Nadia [Padovani] and all the GR staff for believing in me.”
“I still have half a season left to do my best before starting 2023 with top motivation.”
Alex Marquez definitely has the potential to deliver the goods as he has shown in the lightweight categories. So, it’s time for him to man up and take the onus upon himself to deliver as a MotoGP rider.
