Aleix Espargaro could only secure a podium when he clearly had the pace to compete with Fransesco Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo. Courtesy to an awful start to the Spanish GP, Aleix Espargaro lost three places and was stuck behind Marc Marquez and Jack Miller.

It was vividly evident that the Aprilia Racing driver had the edge over both of his competitors but just couldn’t conjure up a move for the best part of the race. What this meant was that Aleix Espargaro had lost his chance to fight with two pace setters at the front of the grid. While the Spanish driver was busy competing with compatriot, Marc Marquez, Fransesco Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo kept stretching their lead.

Aleix Espargaro had a lot of pace going into the high speed corners but could not show his raw pace because of Marc Marquez’s ability to brake so late. But we have to give Aleix credit to play it very sensibly. He knew that Marquez would make a mistake in his quest to get past Jack Miller and so he did. The Aprilia racing driver capitalized on the opportunity provided to him as he went past both Jack Miller and Marc Marquez to secure third place.

But, the Spanish rider was not at all happy with the result as he could have gotten so much more out of the race. Aleix Espargaro said, “It was quite a frustrating race. I know what we need to improve the most and it’s the clutch. Our starts are a disaster this season.”

“I lost a couple of positions, then I overtook Nakagami but it was impossible to overtake Marc and Jack.”

“I was very angry because I had a lot more pace but they braked very late and were stopping in the middle of the corner. I couldn’t really carry my speed in the corner.

“I saw how Fabio and Pecco were going away but it was impossible to overtake,” as quoted by crash.

Aleix Espargaro should definitely feel disappointed by the outcome of the Spanish GP but the signs are positive for the Spaniard as looks to compete with the pace setters ahead of this long season.
