“We don’t give team orders at HRC,” Manuel Peccino clears the air around the MotoGP contracts of his riders

According to Manuel Peccino, even though MotoGP contracts are not revealed to the public, there are often many rumours and related speculations connected to them. One of those points that is worthy enough to be a conversation starter is ’team orders’ which are foreseen in the bonds of the manufacturer.
The Spanish Journalist stated in a video that Honda has a strict rule of not giving team orders. He said that historically, HRC has never ever given team orders to their riders. It is a team motto back at Honda. Manuel Peccino proceeded to quote a statement from an unidentified factory contract in which there was in fact, a clear team order.

The rider further talked about the whole situation in his video. “But in our factory contract, there is a specific clause in this regard, which is very clear – and you can guess that this contract is not for a Honda rider. I’ve already made it known that it’s not from Honda; five more factories are missing in MotoGP.“
“And I say clearly: The rider has to be willing to follow the orders of the team, the director, so that the brand can achieve the best final result in the championship. All other riders competing with the same brand will be given similar indications. And then there is also talk of applying economic sanctions that can be generated by the failure to comply with these orders.”
“It is a delicate matter and I am not surprised that the contracts try to make things clear. Because, at the end of the day, contracts think about everything, they think about anything that might happen and you try to keep it under control.”
With clauses like these in place, you never know the true situation about the events occurring in the team. Only way to get a better understanding will be to get access to everyone’s driver contracts and finally determine why someone is underperforming or not or is simply having to abide by team orders.
