Enea Bastianini

Gresini Racing rider, Enea Bastianini has truly shone through in the 2022 MotoGP season as he has already grabbed two race wins in the first four races till date. The double MotoGP race winner is superbly talented and is currently leading the Championship standings, even though it is only his second season in this league.

With the likes of Alex Rins, Fabio Quartararo falling behind him, Enea Bastianini has shown how he can be consistent and reliable while riding his Ducati on the track. In a recent interview, Alberto Giribuola, the Crew Chief for Bastianini’s team in MotoGP drew similarities between the talented 24-year-old and famous Italian MotoGP racer Andrea Dovizioso. Giribuola also mentioned how Bastianini and Dovizioso have similar styles of riding their Ducati’s.

Andrea Dovizioso got the Ducati seat and became Championship runner-up three times in consecutive seasons — 2017, 2018 as well as 2019. Although the Italian racer was bested by Marc Marquez on each of the three occasions, the world had remained witness to his great skills on the track.

“Really similar” : Gresini Crew Chief comments on Enea Bastianini’s Similarity to Andrea Dovizioso

Bastianini stormed into his second season in MotoGP, with a thunderous win at race opener in Qatar last month, and also got a victory at COTA during the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas. This made the double-race winner rush to the top of the Championship standings with 61 points in store.

Now, the Gresini rider is working with a Crew Chief who previously worked in Dovizioso’s team. When asked about Bastianini’s racing style, Alberto Giribuola said, “I think that they are really similar because their riding style is a lot on the braking and using the front tyre on the limit. So, with that I find some similarities with Andrea.”

It’s also easier for me to understand what I have to do on the bike because I have history.

If Enea Bastianini is truly so similar to the MotoGP veteran Dovizioso, soon, he should be able to emulate the three-time-World-Championship runner up’s speed and then, maybe he will even be able to clinch the Championship title this season. Only time will tell how Bastianini’s future rolls out in his second season as a MotoGP rider.
