Franco Morbidelli is an Italian MotoGP rider. He races for Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP. Born in Rome, Morbidelli started racing at a young age and famously trained with Valentino Rossi’s father, Granziano Rossi. When monetary restraints prevented him from entering the Spanish CEV 125cc championship, Morbidelli entered the European Superstock 600 Championship in 2011. He stayed in the series for 3 seasons and won the title in 2013.

The Italian made his move up to Moto2 in 2013 as a wild-card entry for 3 races. He joined the series full-time in 2014 and continued till 2017. During his 4 year long stint as a full-time rider, Morbidelli won 8 races and collected Pole position 6 times. Morbidelli won the Moto2 Championship in his final year at the series in 2017.

He got the call-up to MotoGP in 2018 with Marc VDS team. The Italian rider scored 50 points in his debut season and placed 15th in the rider’s standings. He finished the season four points ahead of Hafizh Syahrin on the Tech3 Yamaha, thus winning rookie of the year. Morbidelli joined the Yamaha satellite team, Petronas Yamaha SRT, in 2019 and stayed with them till he transferred to the Yamaha Factory team in mid 2021.
