The French GP proved to be a crash-fest, and one of the incidents at Le Mans was when Alex Marquez found himself caught in a “scary” collision with Luca Marini. Marini’s violent crash occurred on the sixth lap when he lost control of his bike while navigating the curbing at Turn 4. Despite keeping his Desmosedici upright, Marini’s loss of momentum forced Marco Bezzecchi to take evasive action, leaving Marquez with no escape route and resulting in a forceful impact between the two riders.

“I was behind Johann [Zarco] and after Turn 5 I was not expecting him to brake so soon,” explained Alex Marquez regarding the incident that led to the crash. “Then I was trying to avoid him on the inside. I was on the line more or less, they closed the gap so early and then I touched Brad a little bit because he was really on the inside there and he was trying to defend.”

“It was scary, but fortunately I’m okay,” Marquez revealed, expressing his relief at escaping the incident without major injuries. However, Marini suffered some pain in his thumbs due to the impact, although he considered it a racing incident and praised his own remarkable save after the initial loss of control.

Adding to Marquez’s difficulties, he received a three-place grid penalty for the next race, which will be at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello. The penalty resulted from an incident involving Brad Binder on the first lap, where Marquez unintentionally made contact with Binder while attempting to avoid Johann Zarco. Marquez regretted the unintended contact with Brad Binder, stating, “I’m sorry for that because it was not my intention to hit Brad.”

The MotoGP Twitter world has opened up about the incident and Marquez’s penalty for the Italian Grand Prix. While some taunted the Spaniard’s mistake for the accident, others spoke about the distinctive phrasing by the stewards in the penalty statement.
