Chicho Lorenzo adamant that Miguel Oliveira is ‘not just any rider’

Chicho Lorenzo and Miguel Olivera

Chicho Lorenzo thinks that it doesn’t make sense in switching Miguel Olivera with Jack Miller. The Portuguese rider has been with KTM since 2019 and has amassed 4 premier class victories over his MotoGP stint. The KTM rider has won in every category which is a mean feat. KTM switching the Portuguese rider from the factory team to the satellite team doesn’t make any sense.

Satellite teams use the factory team’s machinery but do not have funding from the manufacturer themselves as they are a completely different entity who are paying for the service that the factory team will provide.

“You have to see that Oliveira is not just any rider, there’s no logic” : Chicho Lorenzo on Miguel Olivera

Miguel Olivera

“My argument is that it makes no sense to trade Miguel Oliveira for Jack Miller. It seems to me that Oliveira has been there for a long time and has helped the brand now have four more victories in the premier class. He helped develop the bike and won in every category. And he always ended up doing well, he has several championships as runner-up, at least two, I think… no?”

“You have to see that Oliveira is not just any rider, be careful. So I think it’s logical that he doesn’t want to have signed for the KTM satellite team. There’s no logic,” says Chicho Lorenzo while defending Miguel Olivera.

The Portuguese rider seems to have been closer than ever to RNF Aprilia with the remaining seats at Gresini Racing and LCR Honda going to Alex Marquez and Alex Rins respectively. Only time will tell where Miguel Olivera will end up for the 2023 season.
