Ducati Factory team rider Jack Miller managed to claim his first MotoGP pole position since 2018 at the qualifying session for the San Marino Grand Prix. This must have surely given the Aussie rider a big jolt of confidence for tomorrow’s race. A few minutes before the qualifying session, rain was reported on the circuit which mixed things up. It was a weekend consisting of mixed weather forecasts.

After four dry practice sessions, a wet session was just what we needed to witness where the Ducati boys came out on top. Jack Miller put his factory Ducati bike on pole position whilst his teammate Pecco Bagnaia came second and Enea Bastianini who will be partnering Pecco in the factory team for 2023 completed the first row for tomorrow’s race.

An impressive fact of the manufacturer’s qualifying was that they took up 6 spots in the top 7. Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales is sandwiched between the Ducati’s as he managed to put his bike in P5.

The two title contenders Fabio Quartararo and Aleix Espargaro were no match to the pace set by the big guns at Ducati as they qualified P8 and P9 respectively. RNF Yamaha’s Andrea Dovizioso who will be starting his last home race and subsequently his last race in MotoGP in 18th place.

Although Pecco Bagnaia had received a 3 place grid penalty before qualifying even started so he will be starting 5th instead. Ducati fans were flowing with support for the Aussie who will be departing from the team at the end of this season.

The first pole position in almost 4 years must have been a great feeling for Jack Miller. The conditions are perfect for a proper Miller attack on Sunday. With the title contenders also fully on the mark in Misano, It might be another Pecco masterclass tomorrow.

Nevertheless, the Italian GP does seem a bit weird without having Valentino Rossi in the sport. He has always been an icon and the impact that he had had on MotoGP is commendable. With Vinales being the only rider to threaten the Ducati’s, a non-Ducati podium tomorrow doesn’t seem like a possibility.
