The Catalan GP race weekend didn’t go as planned at all for Ducati’s Enea Bastianini. The Italian rider went on to crash while he was braking for turn one during the opening lap of the race. Bastianini had recieved a grid penalty and was starting from 14th place. Alas, his first lap incident led to him instantly retiring from the Grand Prix. Bastianini’s crash triggered a multi-rider crash involving 5 racers.
Enea Bastianini’s actions on turn one of the GP led to his collision with Pramac rider Johann Zarco. This in turn triggered yet another crash with Fabio Di Giannantonio, Alex Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi. Enea was soon taken to the medical center for some checks and then transferred to a hospital for further evaluation. There were fractures suspected, and unfortunately, the suspicions were spot on.
Ducati went on to give a statement in which they gave an update on Enea’s condition. “The two surgeries, performed by Professor Catani and Professor Tarallo at the Policlinico of Modena, were concluded successfully, and Enea will soon be able to begin the post-surgery recovery,” they said. “The Ducati Lenovo Team rider will have to miss the next home GP in Misano and the two events scheduled at the end of the month in India and Japan,” they continued.
Enea Bastianini has suffered fractures to his left ankle and hand
The Ducati MotoGP rider was diagnosed with fractures to his left ankle and hand. He went on to get surgery done on those injuries last evening. It has been noted that the surgery was successful. Alas, the Italian rider will be missing this weekend’s San Marino GP at Misano along with the inaugural Indian GP and the longstanding Japanese GP.
When he does recover and return to racing, Enea Bastianini will have to serve a long lap penalty for causing a multi rider collision at Barcelona. On the other hand, his teammate and championship leader Pecco Bagnaia also had an accident where he got suffered a highside at Turn 2 where Ktm’s Brad Binder ran over his leg. Thankfully, Pecco escaped with minor injuries. It will be interesting to see who Enea’s replacement will be for the next few races.
