Enea Bastianini vs Jorge Martin decision on the 2023 Factory Ducati seat “very difficult” according to Ducati MotoGP manager Davide Tardozzi

Having started eighth and ninth respectively for the 2022 Monster Energy British Grand Prix, Enea Bastianini and Jorge Martin went on an absolute charge to finish in style. The Gresini rider finished in P4 whilst his Ducati constructor teammate from Pramac finished in P5. Both the riders managed to finish four positions ahead of where they had qualified on Saturday. Tensions were high as there was also a direct on-track battle that took place between the pair of riders in the closing stages of the British Grand Prix.

The battle between both the riders in the closing stages was intense, although Enea Bastianini showed some fantastic race pace at the end to come out on top in the battle. This tussle between Enea Bastianini and Jorge Martin is proving to be a headache for Ducati. The heads at Ducati are tasked to  choose between the pair to determine who will get the coveted Factory Ducati seat for 2023. Enea Bastianini cannot go back to Gresini racing next year as both the seats are taken which gives him more incentive to fully push for the Ducati ride for 2023.

“They make our decision very difficult,” says Davide Tardozzi while talking about Enea Bastianini and Jorge Martin

“They make our decision very difficult. Both riders, whoever is in Pramac and whoever is in the factory team, will be treated exactly the same. “It is just a matter of [team] colour. Right now, they are treated the same even if Bastianini has last year’s bike,” he said

“Between Austria and Misano, we will announce the riders. Whichever rider is granted a promotion to the factory squad will be team-mate to Francesco Bagnaia, who took one of his best wins in MotoGP at Silverstone,” he concluded.

Enea Bastianini is currently fourth in the championship standings with 118 points to his name. Meanwhile his seat rival Jorge Martin is all the way down in eleventh place in the standings with 81 points to his name. In my opinion, Enea Bastianini is more deserving of the 2023 Factory Ducati seat but thank god I am not the one deciding their future.
