After winning the German Grand Prix, the next two races have been pretty tough for Fabio Quartararo. It all started in Assen for the French driver who made his first mistake of the season. The French rider had two crashes during the race and was forced to retire from the which in turn decreased his advantage in the championship standings to the 2nd place driver Aleix Espargaro who he had collided with. Who further went to finish P4.
The stewards deemed that this incident was worthy of a long lap penalty for the French rider which was served in Silverstone.
Silverstone was another tough weekend for the reigning world champion. Fabio Quartararo was second at the start of the 20 lap British Grand Prix until he served his long lap penalty. Even though the French rider just lost 1.6 seconds serving the penalty, he went from second to fifth place. This further translated into a P8 as the rider wasn’t able to keep up and his rear tyre overheated while racing in the middle of the pack. Fabio was able to finish just one position ahead of his title rival Aleix Espargaro. This only increased the points gap between them from 21 to 22 points.

“OK, you are fast, but you cannot do everything that you want” : Fabio Quartararo says after the British GP
“I was complaining in the beginning of the year because we didn’t really upgrade the bike,” Fabio Quartararo said before the British GP. “I needed to make a massive change and really put myself even more on the limit. The difficulty is more there, rather than thinking about a back-to-back title. I already achieved my dream – winning the world championship,” he said.
“Of course now it is to win another, another, another… But I am riding super-relaxed. I push myself to the best. When I crashed in Assen I had too much confidence in myself. It can happen that you crash. I thought: ‘OK, you are fast, but you cannot do everything that you want!’” he continued.
The remainder of the season is going to be very tricky for Fabio Quartararo as he only leads the championship by 22 points. Ducati and Aprilia are looking stronger than ever with Pecco Bagnaia winning the last two races. Only time will tell whether the Yamaha rider is able to retain his title or not.
