Fabio Quartararo, the 2021 MotoGP World Champion, navigates stormy seas. His partnership with Yamaha, once a harmonious symphony of speed and precision, now resonates with frustration. As Quartararo’s performance wavers, he’s offered Yamaha a clear ultimatum, emphasizing that the onus is on Yamaha to prove their commitment.
This season has become Quartararo’s worst with Yamaha and even in his entire career, a stark contrast to his previous dominance. Having only clinched three podiums after relinquishing his hold on the championship last year, he is grappling to secure points. The allure of the title has dimmed, and Quartararo is confronting an uphill battle on the tarmac.
Discussing his future within the Japanese team, Quartararo asserted, “In the Misano test, I want to have proof. They have a month. Yamaha has been promising me things for three years in a 10-page PDF document, of which nine-and-a-half pages are not fulfilled.” Expressing his disillusionment, he revealed, “This year I did not want to see that PDF.” He aims to eschew words and focus on tangible action.
“I don’t want to see written things,” Quartararo exclaimed. “What I want to see is the Misano bike,” he emphasized. The Frenchman understands that the bike he drives will be almost the same as he will have in 2024 and expects it to be better if the Japanese team wishes to hold onto their world championship. The Misano Test looms large, an event that he views as a make-or-break moment, a litmus test of Yamaha’s commitment to his aspirations.

Fabio Quartararo’s loyalties remain with Yamaha despite their godawful performance
Despite the nightmare stint with them, loyalty still resides within Quartararo for Yamaha. He noted, “Yamaha is the priority because it is the brand that brought me to MotoGP” The Frenchman added, “I trust Yamaha and I gave them a chance, but there won’t be a second one.” His bond with the brand remains strong, even as he demands tangible results. Yamaha signed Fabio Quartararo to a two-year contract extension in June 2022.
The contract keeps him with the squad through the end of 2024, with the option to extend until 2025. In a significant move, Quartararo has parted ways with his former manager, Eric Mahe. The decision has granted him a sense of liberation. “Now I feel much freer. I have people at home who deal with the legal part and the economic part,” he acknowledged. The 2021 champion claimed he knew what he wanted and did not want to get dizzy.
As the MotoGP saga unfolds, Quartararo’s ultimatum hangs in the balance. The Misano Test emerges as a pivotal juncture. Yamaha faces the task of rekindling their former synergy or steering toward uncharted waters. The answer for Quartaro’s future lies in the performance of the Misano bike and Yamaha’s commitment to Quartararo’s aspirations
