It hasn’t been the best of seasons for Fabio Quartararo with pre season struggles due to Yamaha not being competitive enough with regards to their top speed. The reigning MotoGP Champion has a disastrous weekend during the Dutch GP in Assen where he had two crashes and was forced to retire from the race which in turn decreased his advantage in the championship standings to the 2nd place driver Aleix Espargaro who he had collided with yet the Aprilia rider went on a charge from 15th position to 4th wherein he passed two bikes on the last corner in order to finish in that position in what was a heroic drive. 

Fabio Quartararo was overly ambitious and dived down the inside of Aleix Espargaro and failed to make a pass on him which in turn caused a collision between them where the Aprilia rider went as wide as possible to take evasive action and continue from 15th place. The Aprilia rider had the pace to fight for the win but the Yamaha rider completely destroyed any chances of winning for both of them. For this reason, the Dutch GP stewards deemed that Fabio Quartararo was worthy of a long lap penalty that would be served in Silverstone when MotoGP resumes racing with the BritishGP.

Carlo Pernat evaluated the first half of the season for the Monster Energy Yamaha rider who is currently leading the championship and gave him an 8 out of 10 for his efforts. He was persistent on the fact that Fabio Quartararo needs to strike back at the Silverstone GP.

“I could give him a ten, but I take two points for his mistake in Assen. We thought he was relaxed, he had been able to manage other races, and now he is at an important moment. As with Bagnaia in the Netherlands, Fabio will have to prove at Silverstone that he learned his lesson. It will be particularly important.” said the MotoGP manager.

It is now or never for Fabio Quartaro to start getting results and hit back in Silverstone if he wants to retain his championship lead and shut down his critics.
