Marc Marquez won his 8th world title in 2019, Honda hasn’t been having the best of seasons. One of the causes can be their star rider not able to compete due to injuries. This really affected the team as some were of the opinion that Honda built their bike around Marc Marquez. With him out with an injury, Honda remains helpless and a rigid solution is needed. Honda came to the 2022 season with an extremely overhauled bike which had the main goal of fixing rear grip issues. They had been facing these rear grip issues for the past few years.

After grabbing a podium in the opening round of the season in Qatar with Pol Espargaro, that was it for Honda. The Japanese manufacturer hasn’t scored a podium since the start of the season and that has proved to be very  disappointing. Pol Espargaro was the one who scored the podium for Honda and has since failed to make it into the top 5 all year. The Honda rider is set to make a switch to KTM Tech3 racing next year after signing a 2 year deal. He says that he doesn’t feel that there is much from the guys at the factory in Japan at the moment.

“I don’t see that Honda is very concerned. I don’t know what to interpret” : Pol Espargaro on Honda allegedly ignoring their MotoGP woes

“What bothers me is that Honda is not speaking out, that there is no reaction,” Espargaro said after struggling to 14th at the British Grand Prix. “I don’t see that Honda is very concerned. I don’t know what to interpret. The worst thing is that a manufacturer like this does not show its muscle,” he said.

“Five years ago, it seemed unthinkable that the Japanese brands would gradually struggle, and that the Italians would fly. It was something that could not be foreseen. The problem is that I have no idea what Honda is thinking; I don’t know if what is happening here is coming to Japan. At first glance it doesn’t look like it because we are not getting the material we need to improve the bike,” he continued.

Takaaki Nakagami is the highest placed (16th) active Honda rider on the grid with just 45 points to his name. It is highly disappointing for Honda to go from being in the top bunch to barely even making it into the points. Honda is currently in last place in the constructors standings too with a total of just 88 points. With the 8 hrs of Suzuka, the factory team must have been busy with the endurance department. With the event concluding, possibly the guys at the factory back in Japan will shift their focus back to MotoGP.
