Jorge Lorenzo warns Fabio Quartararo: “If he doesn’t leave the mistake of Assen behind and starts making mistakes again…”

Jorge Lorenzo and Fabio Quartararo

After an eventful Dutch GP at TT Assen, Fabio Quartararo lost crucial points by making mistakes which resulted in his race getting ended prematurely. Jorge Lorenzo thinks that times will be very tough for the Yamaha MotoGP rider all the way upto the end of the season as Aleix Espargaro and Pecco Bagnaia are in top form and ever ready to keep Fabio Quartararo from retaining his championship title.

The Frenchman has also come to the conclusion that the current championship leader will not be able to reverse the Long lap penalty that was imposed on him by the stewards for his shenanigans during the Dutch GP.

“This situation reminds me of when in Ducati only Stoner was strong…” says Lorenzo

If we look at the pre-season, Fabio was not doing well and the rest of the Yamaha riders are still doing it today. This situation reminds me of when in Ducati only  Stoner was strong, or [Marc] Marquez in Honda. If Fabio comes back riding without mistakes it will be impossible for Aleix and Bagnaia to overtake him, but if he doesn’t leave the mistake of Assen behind and starts making mistakes again… Bagnaia and Aleix will be very strong at Sliverstone and Fabio will lose important seconds serving the penalty“, Lorenzo told Gazzetta dello Sport.

As we already know, Fabio Quartararo will have to serve a long lap penalty at the Silverstone GP which is still weeks away. Fabio received the penalty due to his failed attempt at an overtake on Aleix Espargaro which caused a collision between them which in turn ruined both their races. Aleix Espargaro fell back to 15th and lost his chances at gunning for victory while Fabio Quartararo continued but was unable to finish the race.

The pressure is on for the MotoGP rider as he needs to sit back and rethink his approach for the rest of the season if he still has the hunger to add another championship trophy to his name.
