“It is difficult to understand,” Jorge Lorenzo on Suzuki’s shock departure from MotoGP

Suzuki MotoGP

Suzuki MotoGP is the factory-backed team of Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki which is currently competing in the MotoGP World Championship. Suzuki had previously withdrawn from the competition back in 2011 after which they announced in 2013 that they will be returning to MotoGP with a factory team. During the month of May, Suzuki had announced that there was a massive possibility of the factory team withdrawing from MotoGP yet again after the 2022 season. In the end, Suzuki had a contractual obligation that prevented them from withdrawing and participating in MotoGP till 2026.

It came as a massive shock when the news was announced to the public. Jorge Lorenzo doesn’t understand how Suzuki MotoGP could make that decision.

It is bad and unexpected news. The bike was growing a lot, it had an engine that was scary and it’s hard to understand how after so much investment in recent years, Suzuki decided to drop it all’  Jorge Lorenzo said in an interview while also stressing on the fact regarding the consequences of the decision which could affect the riders and the team members along with the employees back at the factory and affect their morale and prevent them from performing at their best in the MotoGP championship which still has got a long way to go before it ends.

“In the same way that riders are faster when they have good news, the opposite happens when they receive bad news, everything gets more complicated,” he continued

After their return to MotoGP in 2015, the factory team has constantly been evolving, facilitating an improvement in their progress. Suzuki won a race in 2016 and in 2018, got both their riders on the podium whilst their biggest success came in 2020 where Joan Mir became World Champion with Alex Rins finishing third in the standings.
