“It was a big slap in the face” : Reigning Moto2 World Champion Remy Gardner Expresses Concerns As His MotoGP Campaign Turns Out Unsuccessful
Remy Gardner
The name–“Gardner”– is famous among all Motorsport enthusiasts because of 1987 500 cc World Champion Wayne Gardner. Now, his able son Remy Gardner has made himself a name in the MotoGP community after he became the Moto2 World Champion last season. The Australian beat Raul Fernandez to grab the title and earned an entry into the highest league of motorcycle racing in 2022.
In this new season, Remy Gardner has partnered up with former rival Raul Fernandez as the two of them joined the Ajo KTM MotoGP team with big promises of bringing their Moto2 talent into the MotoGP grid. Fans of the Austrian manufacturer were happy to see two young talents make way into MotoGP and they were certain both Garner and Fernandez would strive to live up to their expectations.
Unfortunately, both the riders have had a rather insignificant campaign at MotoGP in the initial races that have happened till now. Currently, the Moto2 World Champion Remy Gardner sits at 22 in the Championship Rankings and his teammate occupies the 23rd position. Since only 4 races have taken place till now, there is a lot of scope for improvement, but Gardner still expresses disappointment over the poor results in his previous races.
“I expected more” : Remy Gardner sounds upset as he fails to achieve good results in his debut races at MotoGP
Remy Gardner has incredible talent and a long legacy in motorsport. Undoubtedly, he had high expectations from himself when he got the offer to step into MotoGP with KTG after winning at Moto2. But till now, he has only scored one point so far and has never entered the top 20 in Saturday’s Qualifying Sessions. He even missed out on pre-season training due to a wrist injury, which cost him precious time to get used to his new bike.
While speaking about his race performance, Gardner said, “I expected a little better if I’m honest with you, seeing what other guys have done in the past and I think how we finished the Moto2 year so dominant.”
“So, if I’m honest with you I expected more. It’s been a really tough first few races, hopefully getting back to Europe can bring a bit of stability. It was a big slap in the face, that’s for sure.”
This year has not been particularly kind to KTM as their results are not that great for any of the drivers. Among the 4 KTM drivers on the track, Gardner and Fernandez are in the bottom 5 while Oliveira is in the 9th position. Only B. Binder has done well so far with the 6th position to his name, above Ducati rider Jack Miller.
