‘It’s difficult to win a world championship with so many races without points,’ Jorge Lorenzo gives his take on Pecco Bagnaia’s title chances

Pecco Bagnaia

There are three riders this year that have been performing at the topmost level which  in turn has given them a shot at the MotoGP world championship title. Fabio Quartararo, Aleix Espargaro and Pecco Bagnaia have been on a level above the rest of the grid.

Although, when it comes to Pecco Bagnaia luck has not been with him as he is still far away from close contention after completing a number of races out of the points which Jorge Lorenzo thinks isn’t the best of circumstances posed in order to win the MotoGP world championship.

Bastianini started very well, for example, and nobody was expecting it. On the other hand, he also started to suffer more crashes and to be slower, which shows that MotoGP remains a very mental sport,” Lorenzo told La Gazzetta dello Sport

He continued : “And then comes Bagnaia. For me the Ducati is a slightly superior bike to all the others but it made too many mistakes due to the excessive pressure. It’s hard to win a world championship with so many zeros [races without points]. Marc [Marquez] did it, but he had won a lot of races and I don’t see Quartararo making so many mistakes. But everything is still open.

It’s all to play for in the 2022 MotoGP season as anyone amongst the three might win the title unless a fourth contender arises and surprises us all.
