The first ever Indian MotoGP round has been kind to some and brutal to many. Thankfully, Pramac Ducati rider Jorge Martin had a smooth weekend throughout. Saturday itself was a blast for the rider as he went on to finish first in the first ever MotoGP Sprint followed by Pecco Bagnaia and Honda’s Marc Marquez. The race at Buddh International Circuit was shortened to 20 laps due to concerns raised by the riders.

Jorge Martin was locked in a battle with Pecco Bagnaia during the initial stages of the Grand Prix. However, the Championship leader crashed out at turn 5 on Lap 14. This gave Martin the push to charge ahead. However there was an issue in his riding suit which had unzipped partially. Apart from that, a mistake on turn 4 allowed Fabio Quartararo to briefly overtake him. After claiming the position back and finishing second, he had to be attended by MotoGP’s medical team.

In an interview, he shared his experience throughout the situation. “I was dehydrated when there were eight laps to go, so it was really difficult to finish the race. Even though I was able to keep a good pace, in the last lap I did a big mistake because of the dehydration,” he said. “So, I ran wide and Fabio overtook me. But I could overtake back and I’m very happy to take this second position,” he continued.

Jorge Martin has reduced his championship lead to Pecco Bagnaia to 13 points

After the Sprint race on Saturday, Pecco Bagnaia’s championship lead to Jorge Martin was reduced to 33 points. However, Sunday’s race took everyone by surprise as Pecco went on to crash out from the race. This in turn gave championship rivals Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi a massive advantage. Martin also went on to score Pramac’s 50th podium.
