Marc Marquez has been known for his risk taking maneuvers in the past. The Spaniard has injured himself multiple times during the whole fiasco. Once prominent example is from last year when the Honda rider had to sit out for most of the season due to a fourth operation being conducted on his right arm. Thankfully, due to a fast recovery, the Spaniard was medically cleared to ride even sooner.

Having had his fair share of incidents in the 2023 season, Marc Marquez has deemed that all riders need to be “responsible“. The Spaniard himself had come under fire last year for his risk taking incident involving Miguel Olivera. Enea Bastianini’s move on turn one at the Catalan MotoGP round ended up causing a chain reaction. Here is what the Honda rider had to say about the situation.

All MotoGP riders, well, all world championship riders, are responsible,” Marquez was quoted by Marca. “To go at 350km/h on a motorcycle you must be smart, responsible and very aware of what can happen to you. Another thing is that we like this job, we are passionate and we love our sport,” he said. “When you make Bastianini’s mistake, it is analysed and penalised,” he stated.

The Ducati MotoGP rider went on to take a huge risk on lap one itself. This led to a collision with Pramac driver Johann Zarco. This in turn triggered yet another crash with Fabio Di Giannantonio, Alex Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi. It was pretty clear that Enea’s first lap lunge was the reason behind the pileup. Zarco even went on to criticise Bastianini for trying to be a ‘hero’.

The Ducati MotoGP rider was diagnosed with fractures to his left ankle and hand. He further went on to get surgery done on those injuries that evening, which will take some time for recovery. Effective, this would mean that he won’t be racing for at least a month and will miss the inaugural Indian Grand Prix.  The Italian rider will be also missing this weekend’s San Marino GP at Misano. It will be interesting to see what he’s able to do for the rest of the season following a horrific blow to his confidence.
