Ever since the Catalan MotoGP round, the title fight had taken an interesting turns. Marco Bezzecchihad a bit of bad luck in the last few races ahead of the inaugural Indian GP. However, the Italian rider managed to grab a dominant win at the Buddh International Circuit. This in turn has helped him close up the gap in points between him and championship leader Pecco Bagnaia.
This year, the Ducati’s have been dominant throughout the season, which in turn has led to the top 3 in the standings being Ducati riders. However, the VR46 rider has gone on to claim that the main title fight is between Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin and Factory Ducati rider Pecco Bagnaia. Marco doesn’t consider himself an actual championship contender yet.
In an interview, the VR46 rider explains his reasoning. “I am relaxed because at the moment the real fight is between them,” Bezzecchi said on Thursday at Motegi, referring to Martin and Bagnaia. “I’m just running close to them, but never close enough. Of course, if I can be close until the end I will try my best to fight for it. This is normal. I would lie if I said ‘no [I wouldn’t],” he stated.

Marco Bezzecchi is just 44 points away from the championship lead
After his win at the Indian Grand Prix, Marco Bezzecchi gained a massive advantage on Pecco Bagnaia who had crashed out of the race. This in turn had a huge impact on the championship fight between the top three. Jorge Martin finished P2 and sits just 13 points behind Pecco ahead of today’s Japanese GP sprint. Overturning Pecco’s lead shouldn’t be an issue for Bezzecchi.
Back in 2022, Pecco Bagnaia overturned a 91 point lead to win the MotoGP championship. This weekend, the pressure would be high for the championship leader as he has two hunters breathing down his neck. With Marco Bezzecchi crashing in Q2, his chances look a bit sleek this weekend. With 7 rounds remaining, all is to play for in this championship.
