MotoGP came to India for the very first time last weekend, and it was truly a blast for the fans and the riders. After some drama-filled practice sessions, Qualifying was dominated by Marco Bezzecchi and the Ducati boys. With the VR 46 team rider qualifying first, it was gonna be an interesting race on Sunday. Marco has been the victim of many first lap incidents this year. However, this race went smoothly for the Italian.
Having dominated the race throughout, Marco Bezzecchi’s pressure was cut short as Pecco Bagnaia went on to crash out of the race at turn 5 on lap 14. Having already had a 33 point lead to second place rider Martin, this costly mistake reduced the lead to just 13 points. With Marco winning the inaugural Indian Grand Prix, he’s also closing in on the Ducati factory rider.
In an interview, here is what Marco had to say regarding the situation. “I’m not thinking about the championship still, because it’s very long. But to be closer anyway, I would lie if I told you I don’t like it!” smiled Bezzecchi. “Because to be able to fight with Pecco, Jorge, also Brad is close, they are amazing riders. So for me it’s an honour,” the Italian rider continued.

The VR46 team rider’s pace throughout the shortened 20 lap Indian Grand Prix was very commendable. For almost 95% of the race, the Italian rider posted lap times of around 1 minute, 45 seconds. The consistency and cool that he kept went on to benefit him in the end. With Brad Binder being fourth in the championship standings’s Marco will have to continue this streak.
The Indian GP was truly a spectacle. With a weekend attendance of around 111 thousand people, it wasn’t bad for the first iteration considering the situation at hand in the run up to the GP. With Marc Marquez scoring a podium in the sprint race and Fabio Quartararo scoring a podium in the main race, many fans got the satisfaction of seeing their favourite riders get some trophies at the Buddh International Circuit.
