After competing in the sport for 12 years, Valentino Rossi retired from MotoGP at the end of 2021. However, his legacy is continued by his VR46 racing team wherein Marco Bezzecchi is challenging for the 2023 MotoGP title. The VR46 academy in Tavullia has gone on to have extremely talented graduates. Two of those are none other then MotoGP title contenders Pecco Bagnaia and Bezzecchi.

Throughout the season, they have been in a neck-and-neck battle to be the best rider. Having grown up together, the two Italians find themselves racing at the top most tier of MotoGP. Marco Bezzecchi had a lot of bad luck due to turn 1 incidents this year. However, he went on to strike back on Pecco Bagnaia as the VR46 rider went on to win in India. He also won by a huge margin over second-place finisher Jorge Martin.

Pecco Bagnaia’s gap to Jorge Martin in the championship is a mere 13 points with Marco Bezzecchi also on the chase

Bagnaia had come into the Indian GP holding a decent 36 point lead over title rival Jorge Martin. After the Sprint race on Saturday Bagnaia’s championship lead to Martin was reduced to 33 points. However, Sunday’s race took everyone by surprise as Pecco went on to crash out of the race. This meant that he came out of the Indian GP weekend with zero points while his rivals got a sizeable lead on the Ducati rider.

The Indian GP was physically demanding for the riders with Jorge Martin having to require medical attention post race as he suffered from dehydration. While Valentino Rossi was not present at the Indian GP, his sea of fans was there to show their support. The Italian is heavily favoured in India by the fans. Many were hoping for the Indian GP to come sooner so that Rossi would also compete in it but unfortunately that was not possible.
