It was an enthralling British Grand Prix at Silverstone for Maverick Vinales as he managed to ruin Ducati’s 1-2 dream by splitting both the riders on the podium. After coming into contact with reigning world champion Fabio Quartararo, the Aprilia rider dropped from second to fifth place. This incident between both these riders happened in a single corner. Although Vinales was of the opinion that this incident did not have any effect on his race.

The Aprilia rider charged through the field only to narrowly miss out on his first MotoGP victory with Aprilia. With there being doubts over Espargaro’s fitness and performance for the race after his massive FP4 crash, Maverick Vinales proved that he is reliable and brought home a great result for the team. The Aprilia rider was in great form all through the weekend and was also the fastest rider on the track with a few laps remaining.

Maverick Vinales  decided with the team that he would not use his start device for the British MotoGP round. Even though it didn’t affect his launch, it did put him under pressure from Fabio Quartararo who went round the outside of the Aprilia rider. This eventually caused them to come into contact.

“When Fabio came across the line I needed to close the gas, but this is part of the race” : Maverick Vinales on his contact with Fabio Quartararo

“We didn’t use the start device and that’s why I got a ‘normal’ start. When Fabio came across the line I needed to close the gas, but this is part of the race,” added the Spanish rider. “If I start better then I would have been better. It didn’t make my race different. I was waiting for ten laps to go to push and it paid off. I just needed one more lap. I tried with two laps to go but Pecco was very smart. Today we are second but a few races ago we were tenth,” he said.

After having a lengthy battle with Jorge Martin for 4th position, Maverick Vinales further proceeded to overtake Alex Rins who had no pace left after leading the race for a few laps. The Aprilia rider further went on to split the Ducati duo of Bagnaia and Miller to slot into P2 and fight for race victory. In the end he had enough pace to fight for the race win with Pecco but Vinales made a crucial mistake in the last lap. This denied him any chances for victory but P2 was an equally impressive result from the Aprilia man.
