“Our target is not to annoy someone else,” Enea Bastianini’s crew chief says their goal is to win the championship

Enea Bastianini

It is obvious that Enea Bastianini is on of the two drivers being considered for the factory Ducati seat for 2023 with the Italian rider already grabbing three race victories this season. This puts him in 5th position in the championship points table and separates him from the leader (Fabio Quartararo) by 67 points.

Alberto Giribuola who has also worked with Andrea Dovizioso in the factory Ducati team was asked in an interview about the possibility of Enea Bastianini causing Francesco Bagnaia problems if the Italian rode for the factory team. Well, according to the Gresini racing crew chief, those aren’t the rider’s intentions.

“We have everything that we need to be as fast as him or be faster than him, so it’s not a problem” : Alberto Giribuola to Andrea Dovizioso

“Our target is not to annoy someone else; our target is just to win the Championship. It always depends on what the other riders think of Enea. When Andrea saw Jorge Lorenzo joining our garage, in the beginning it was like ‘oh my God, this is a multiple-time world champion and he’s in our garage’ but then we just focused on our job. I said to Andrea: ‘We have everything that we need to be as fast as him or be faster than him, so it’s not a problem’. In the end we were faster, so pressure is something that you put in your mind.”

“I think for us if we go there, we’ll try our best and then if it’s that a problem for Pecco… well, Pecco will handle it. I think he has a good team, he has a good mind, he has a good past achieving a lot of good results, so I don’t think in the end he will be under that much pressure.”

All eyes lie ahead in the final half of the season where both the riders will battle it out for the championship crown. Who do you think will win the 2022 MotoGP world championship?
