There has been a bit of trouble at the top for Ducati Factory MotoGP rider Pecco Bagnaia. Being at the top of the championship standings by 62 points, tragedy struck Pecco during the Catalan GP. The Italian rider faced a high side on turn two at Barcelona which threw him off his bike. To make matters worse, he was thrown in front of the pack of riders who did their best to avoid him.
Unfortunately, KTM’s Brad Binder ran over Pecco’s leg sending him into a spin. Nevertheless, The Ducati ride escaped with no serious injuries. While the Italian rider was given the green signal to ride, he still felt some pain in his leg during Saturday’s 13 lap Sprint race. He was able to secure a third place finish by fending of Brad Binder and Dani Pedrosa. Despite the tough situation, he was glad to have finished after the Catalan GP drama.
In an interview, here is what he had to say about his result. “It was too important to restart with a podium from [what happened in] Barcelona. Much more than this was very difficult.” While speaking about how he felt physically in that race, Bagnaia said: “Quite bad, right now. Tired, really tired. I need some rest for sure. In any case, I’m happy with the result considering where we were six days ago. I’m so pleased and proud for the result we achieved,” he continued.
Enea Bastianini has been ruled out for Misano and the next two MotoGP races
Pecco Bagnaia’s teammate at Ducati has suffered yet another injury that will prevent him from racing for a few weeks. The Italian rider was diagnosed with fractures to his left ankle and hand. He went on to get surgery done on those injuries last evening. It has been noted that the surgery was successful. Alas, Enea Bastianini will be missing this weekend’s San Marino GP at Misano along with the inaugural Indian GP and the longstanding Japanese GP.
On the other hand, Pecco Bagnaia has revealed that he could be using a stronger painkiller for Sunday’s main race. Title rival Marco Bezzecchi went on to finish ahead of the Ducati factory rider and is trying to claw back on his lead. Even he had sustained a few injuries during his outing in Barcelona. It will be interesting to see if Pecco can extend his championship lead once again tomorrow.
