Pecco Bagnaia emerges victorious in the 2022 British GP, thanks Valentino Rossi for advice on tyres
Jack Miller and Pecco Bagnaia
Coming into the 2022 British GP, the race win predictions weren’t in the favour of Ducati Factory rider Pecco Bagnaia. The Italian rider managed to grab a very fruitful and important victory at Silverstone yesterday. This has somehow brought him back into contention for the MotoGP riders championship. Fabio Quartararo’s mistake in Assen and his poor performance in Silverstone means the points gap between him and the Ducati rider is down to 49 points. This is what could be the start of an unbelievable comeback.
Bagnaia has not lost his race winning form after Assen and has proceeded to show it again in Britain with his second race victory in a row. With 8 races remaining, Quartararo cannot afford to have a bad race with the Ducati’s obliterating the Yamaha M1’s. Even Aleix Espargaro will be hungrier than ever to steal the title from Fabio Quartararo. In just two races, the gap between the Yamaha rider and the Ducati rider has gone down from 91 to 49 points.

“We were forced to run with the average” : Pecco Bagnaia on his tyre choice for the British Grand Prix
“It was not easy. Apart from PL1 we struggled all weekend. I wasn’t being able to have a great feeling with grip in general. Both in front and behind. This morning I found an advantage in putting the hard behind it. I liked the soft in front more in terms of driving, but I destroyed it. We were forced to run with the average,” he said.
“I knew I should be careful of the tire behind the beginning. I didn’t have to throw it away. Above all, I couldn’t overdo it. The only point where I could recover was braking, otherwise I lost so much from the others because it slipped enough. I’m really happy. I put it among my best victories,” he continued.
Valentino Rossi was Pecco Bagnaia’s advisor on what tyre should be run in the race. His advice was fundamental with regards to Pecco’s race result. The Ducati rider said that Rossi was very lucid to advise him in his opinion on which tyre would have been better for the race. This, according to Bagnaia, helped him.
