Honda MotoGP rider Pol Espargaro is set to leave the team at the end of the season after a two-season stint with them. The Spanish rider will be joining Gas Gas which is the current Tech 3 and KTM’s satellite team. Although there is still time until the rider switches teams which means he is fully dedicated to improving the team’s performance and helping in their progression.

Joan Mir will be replacing Pol Espargaro at Repsol Honda next season where the soon to be ex-Suzuki rider will partner Marc Marquez who seems to have reignited the flame in his performance. Pol on the other hand has had a tough time with the Japanese manufacturer. The eight-time podium finisher shifted from KTM to Honda last season and will be making the switchback for 2023.

Throughout his tenure with Honda, it was clear that Pol Espargaro struggled a lot. In the two years that he has been a part of the team, the Spanish rider has only managed to achieve two podium finishes. Having missed 8 races this season, teammate Marc Marquez is still 35 points ahead of Espargaro which shows the problems that he and the team have suffered. He further went on to explain his case to the media.

The Spanish rider then talked about the root of Honda’s issues. ‘There are many ways of working. Every culture works in a different way in the paddock and the Japanese culture has a very peculiar way of working, very different to the others or to what I was used to in KTM. That doesn’t make it better or worse, the only thing is that the organisation within the factory is different and that affects when you have more or less problems, at the level of unity, control and above all communication,” he said.

“Communication, especially between the official team and the satellite team, between the team managers and the riders, is very important, and I think Honda may be lacking in this area,” he continued.

Being in the factory Honda comes with pressure alongside the fact that you will be partnered with Marc Marquez. Pol Espargaro tried his best to keep up but the match was just not made in heaven. However, 2023 looks to be promising for the Spanish rider as he will be in a low pressure environment with the manufacturer that he is familiar with.
