Valentino Rossi’s number to be retired from MotoGP in a ceremony in Mugello during the Italian Grand Prix

Valentino Rossi is an irreplaceable personality who has has one of the most memorable careers in MotoGP spanning a whopping 26 years. The Italian’s name has been intertwined with the sport because of his glorious races, and innumerous contributions to Grand Prix racing. Most of the drivers who are on the MotoGP grid right now, have always looked up to Rossi as an inspiration because of the Doctor’s impossible feats.
And now that Valentino Rossi has retired from MotoGP after nearly three decades of thunderous racing in 2021, the Motorcycle Grand Prix Authority are going to retire the Doctor’s number, 46, from the league. It is being done because noone can ever replace Valentino Rossi, and his contributions to the sport.

The official announcement for this was done recently, and it was also said there will be ceremony during the Italian Grand Prix weekend in Mugello to commemorate this events. Nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi will be present at the ceremony, alongwith other dignitaries in the event that will take place in two weeks’ time.

MotoGP has always been associated with Valentino Rossi because he is one of the most successful and glorious riders in the history of the sport. And to celebrate his brilliant career, his number will be retired from the league so that no other rider can use it as Valentino Rossi is irreplaceable.
The number will be retired during the Italian Grand Prix weekend in an elaborate ceremony, on Saturday. This event will take place right before the Qualifying session starts in Mugello. The official announcement for it was made through a press statement released on Saturday, during the Le Manns Grand Prix weekend.
Before this, only three other numbers have been removed from the premier class of motorcycle racing–Kevin Schwantz [34], Loris Capirossi [65] and Nicky Hayden [69]. Rossi will join this elite club, but one cannot help remembering Rossi’s own words about this from 2016. He had said, “About my number, my first impression is that I don’t like that the 46 is cancelled, I prefer that it remains and if some other rider wants to take that number they can.”
